I'm Erik. My goal is to spread useful, cutting-edge knowledge by building, researching, and teaching.

I'm a researcher at the Center for Computing Research (CIC) of the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) in Mexico City; supported by Mexico's National System of Researchers (SNI). Email: ezamorag@ipn.mx

My work involves:

  1. Mentoring PhD and master's students through to graduation.
  2. Leading research and publishing it in top international journals and conferences, primarily with my graduate students.
  3. Running Actumlogos, where since 2018 a team of experts and I have been producing and delivering AI training courses.
  4. Developing AI projects for companies (machine learning, deep learning, LLMs, and agents), with a focus on computer vision.

I take machine learning and deep learning projects from 0 to 1 — from initial concept to production deployment. That means building and curating datasets from scratch, developing and evaluating ML/DL models, and integrating and maintaining them in production. More broadly, my work centers on computer vision, and artificial neural systems.

Achievements

  • Built an image-analysis system for rat detection and pest-insect identification — Extrasense (2019–present).
  • Developed an emergency-signal-guided navigation system for mobile robots in unknown environments — University of Bristol, UK (2014).
  • Developed Mexico's first commercial myoelectric system for prosthesis control — PRO/BIONICS (2007).
  • Advanced methods for morphological neural networks — postdoctoral research at CIC-IPN (2016–2017).
  • Co-founded Hackeando Tec, a YouTube channel teaching neural networks, fuzzy logic, computer vision, FPGAs, and ARM microcontrollers — now 16,100+ subscribers and 1.62M+ views.
  • Founded Actumlogos, training people in frontier technologies: deep learning, machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, and more.
  • SNI Level 1 researcher (Mexico's National System of Researchers) since January 2020.
  • Professor at the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) since 2008.

Short Biography

I enjoy applying and sharing frontier knowledge by building, researching, and teaching. I'm the founder of Actumlogos, a co-founder of Extrasense, and a professor-researcher at CIC-IPN. I hold a PhD (2015) and an MSc (2007) from CINVESTAV-IPN. I've published in international journals and conferences and have supervised doctoral, master's, and undergraduate theses. My research focuses on neural models and autonomous robots.
